Stern earned BA degree in Politics, Journalism, History from Union College in 2006. The now-famous journalist did her first job as an account coordinator in Kaplow Communications from 2006 to 2007. She then worked for over 2 years as a technology writer at Laptop Magazine where she reviewed the notebooks and laptops.
In October 2009, Stern joined Freelance as a technology writer and editor for over 1 year and shifted to Engadget as a reviews editor where she wrote several consumer technology reviews. In March 2011, she along with Nilay Patel, Paul Miller, Joshua Topolosky, Chris Zigler, and other employees in order to create ”This Is My Next” which would be later become The Verge, technology news and media network.
After forming The Verge, she worked for only 11 months and moved to ABC News in 2012 as a technology editor. While working on ABC, she used to write consumer technology stories and also hosted ”Tech This Out.”

Since 2013, Stern is working in The Wall Street Journal. At first, she worked as a personal technology columnist for around 4 years and later started working as a deputy chief video editor.
